Kinesio Taping Surrey

Traditional taping and strapping techniques and the medical tapes that were used can limit the body’s movement, which can be a cause of inconvenience for athletes or people who have a physically active lifestyle. While there is still a need for them, i.e. the thighs of rugby players, Kinesio Taping provides practitioners, athletes and all patients with an innovative solution.
What is Kinesio Taping?
Kinesio taping (sometimes referred to as Rock Taping) is a therapeutic taping technique designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. It enhances blood circulation and provides support to the musculoskeletal system, all without restricting the body’s motion.
Developed in Japan in the 1970s, this taping method has become one of the most popular manual therapy adjunctive techniques over the last several years. The tape itself is usually made of cotton or some other blend of materials that mimic the skin’s elasticity to allow you to use the full range of movements and the adhesive qualities are water-resistant.
Kinesio tapes are highly durable (lasts for 3-5 days) and are the best option for athletes with sports injuries or active individuals who might not always have the time of getting fully-fledged frequent treatments.
Rock Tape is a brand of quality kinesiology tape that has established itself as the trusted taping choice for several professional sports teams and athletes.
You’ll be glad to know, we hold a Rocktape Certified Medical Professional license.

How does it work and what does it do?
Kinesio tape was developed to assist your body’s healing process. When applied over a muscle or joint, the tape elevates the human skin (the myofascial dermal layer) so that blood circulation increases. This raises the amount of oxygen available to the muscles, allowing your body to heal itself faster.
Kinesio tape also promotes lymphatic drainage in order to remove toxins produced by the body when you exercise or exert yourself physically. It can be very beneficial for attenuating muscle fatigue.
In other words, blood and lymph circulation increases around tired muscles; they can work for longer; thus, the muscles around the affected area don’t have to pick up the slack and can function normally. This reduces exhaustion in an overall sense.
One major factor that sets Kinesio tape apart from conventional taping is how the former does not restrict your movement. Rather it makes you aware of the muscle contracting or being stretched. The high elasticity, the optimum thickness of the tape, along with quick recoil, allow full motion of the taped area. In fact, using Kinesio tapes might help your muscles move better than they would have in an injured condition by providing further support and stability.
Injuries can cause your musculoskeletal system to fall out of tune. For example, spraining your ankle might impact your hip muscles. Overusing your injured muscles might slow down recovery. As we have already mentioned, Kinesio taping improves circulation in the injured region, which helps dormant muscles activate and overactive muscles to relax. Thus, it leads to better coordination of body movements, even when there are apparent discomforts.
Kinesio tapes are very popular amongst athletes. However, it can be used by anyone depending on the injury or condition and purpose.
This kind of taping is extremely effective when used in conjunction with other treatments such as Osteopathy. In fact, Kinesio taping is often used by Osteopaths as a part of the overall treatment for injuries.
It can be beneficial in alleviating back pain, neck and joint aches and pains. Plus, it provides stability for shoulder, knee and ankle joints, facilitates restoration after muscle injuries and assists soft tissue manipulation as an additional tool. In more specific terms, Kinesio taping can help you if you have clinical conditions such as Achilles’ tendonitis, sciatica, strains, sprains etc.
Some studies show that Kinesio taping, by letting you move normally, despite minor injuries and can even enhance performance in athletes and increase endurance.
Lastly, Kinesio tapes can assist in retraining muscles that have gotten used to an unhealthy way of working. For example, it can improve the posture of your head and neck.

Alan is a very friendly, professional & knowledgeable osteopath. In my case, my neck was feeling much better after the first (same day) appointment and back to normal after a second appointment a week later. Alan also provided video exercises to improve my condition. I will highly recommend the services of Arc Osteopathy! Thank you, Alan!

Early last year I was having terrible pain in one of my knees and could barely walk. Over a number of months Alan treated me and showed me what exercises to do and what to avoid. I am now signed off from treatment and enjoying doing everything I did before and more. Thanks to Alan.

I met Alan in 2013 when I had bruises my ribs. Thanks to him, I was able to climb to the top of Mount Kinabalu in South East Asia two months later. Since then, I swear by him. I cannot recommend him enough. I drive an hour each way to see him for a 30 min session. He is the best osteopath in London.
